Don't give out your passwords

To Those Concerned:
Ok Guys, maybe someone needs to tell you that you are not supposed to enter your email addresses and the corresponding passwords into strange and unknown sites. You know who you are and I don't want to take names...

Now My Extended Rant:
Ok guys, why (why why why) do you type your username and password for email services into strange looking pages on unknown sites?

Got this email with subject "Check it out" from one of my Yahoo! contacts inviting me to play online bingo. Pretty cool except that I cant understand why they need my AOL, Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo usernames and passwords. Hmm....

Further probing reveals this wonderful mode of operation:
You get an email that looks like it came from one of your friends, with the subject "Check it out". It contains a link to a web page that lets you find out who invited you. You then enter your first name, your email address at Hotmail, AOL, Yahoo!, or Gmail, and your password. Great! You just managed to provide your first name, your email address and your password. And from that, your contact list. So now your contacts all get "Check it out" emails from you, and the circle of life is complete.

The page in question is http://followhere01.com/go.asp
Go have a look, its perfectly safe as long as you do not enter your details.

Read this touching blog from a poor soul who managed to get scammed.

For the adventurous they also have a downloadable version of the game at http://www.playbingolive.org/download/PlayBingoLive_Install_v32.exe
Don't want to take a guess on what it could be. Some brave (or foolish) soul can install and let me know the results.

Is Premji right to go against job quotas in Wipro?

The Economic Times has opened a debate on "Is Premji right to go against job quotas in Wipro?"

As expected most of the posts agree with him... Edward Edezhath manages to put his point across in a wonderful and greatly readable way... Read it here

I completely support the PM and all the politicians for promoting Reservations. Let's start the reservation with our cricket team. We should have 10 percent reservation for muslims. 30 percent for OBC, SC/ST like that. Cricket rules should be modified accordingly. The boundary circle should be reduced for an SC/ST player. The four hit by an OBC player should be considered as a six and a six hit by a OBC player should be counted as 8 runs. An OBC player scoring 60 runs should be declared as a century. We should influence ICC and make rules so that the pace bowlers like Shoaib aktar should not bowl fast balls to our OBC player. Bowlers should bowl maximum speed of 80 kilometer per hour to an OBC player. Any delivery above this speed should be made illegal.

Also we should have reservation in Olimpics. In the 100 meters race, an OBC player should be given a gold medal if he runs 80 meters.

There can be reservation in Government jobs also. Let's recruit SC/ST and OBC pilots for aircrafts which are carrying the ministers and politicians (that can really help the country.. )

Ensure that only SC/ST and OBC doctors do the operations for the ministers and other politicians. (Another way of saving the country..)

Let's be creative and think of ways and means to guide INDIA forward.
Let's show the world that INDIA is a GREAT country. Let's be proud of being an INDIAN..

May the good breed of politicans like ARJUN SINGH long live.

The Development Abstraction Layer

The Development Abstraction Layer - Joel Spolsky discusses the importance of having a great corporate infrastructure so that developers can just get on with writing code. Well, that's one model, and developers certainly find it a seductive one. But it's not the only model; some companies run successfully with a much leaner profile where the yacht drivers also get their hands dirty in the engine room.
